Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Museum Exhibits, the Exhibition Technician assists in the installation and maintenance of galleries and exhibitions. Activities include a range of duties related to exhibition preparation and management, exhibition maintenance, and graphics support museum and organizational needs. 

Position Type:

This is a full-time, benefit eligible position that will work in-person at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY. The hourly pay range for this position is $17.00-19.00 for a 35-hour work week. Benefits associated with this position include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, medical/dental FSA, retirement, and paid time off (vacation, sick, holidays). 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with activities including the preparation of spaces for installation/de-installation, moving and storing exhibition components, object mounting, cleaning and maintaining exhibition spaces, and performing regular inspection and maintenance of exhibition spaces and helping to address repairs. 
  • Supports in-house digital print finishing including mounting, laminating, trimming, and installing and removing exhibition and museum graphics.
  • Supports exhibition production through a variety of activities including, carpentry, painting, the operation of special equipment and tools, crate making and exhibit lighting and installation of technology.

·      Assists Collections staff with the installation and de-installation of permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.

·      Provides estimated equipment, time and materials needed to complete projects.

·      Assists with the maintenance of Museum of workshop and helps to ensure safety standards are met.

·      Assists with the installation and setting of lighting for exhibitions, including maintaining good working order of the track lighting fixtures.

  • Works with volunteers, interns, contract labor and other museum staff as needed, including physical plant and security personnel as needed.

·      Transports exhibition furniture to offsite storage and maintains inventory of all non-collection related storage objects.

  • Occasional travel or driving a medium-sized truck for business-related purposes.

·      Performs other duties as assigned, including supporting various museum departments, museum annual events and other programs.

 Qualifications

 Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Trade, or Associate Degree; museum experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of tools and equipment including operation of motorized power tools and lifts.
  • Basic computer skills, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to safely lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Occasional travel or use of company vehicle may be required; valid NY state driver’s license required.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical movement that includes: walking, bending, stretching, standing, carrying, pulling, stair climbing and lifting.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
