The Director of Education is responsible for the management, development, implementation, evaluation, and continual improvement of the RMSC Museum & Science Center’s programmatic and educational offerings including public programming, school field trips, outreach, community engagement, camp programs, adult programs and more. They are the strategic and collaborative leader of the Education Department which provides an educational, fun, and safe Museum environment that is conducive to inspiring, engaging, and interactive experiences that serve the RMSC’s diverse visitor audiences.
The Director of Education articulates and manages priorities and expectations for their team and leads the department in: developing and managing several departmental budgets ( $1.79m), setting the strategy programs, supporting Education Department initiatives, framing the tone, standards, culture, and work plans of the team, and collaborating with other RMSC departments to ensure the Museum and Science Center’s educational programs offer engaging and impactful experiences for all audiences which align with the RMSC’s Mission, core values, Strategic Plan.
The Director of Education has supervisory responsibilities for the Education Department team (12 full-time, 25 part-time, and approximately 90 seasonal) and a robust group of RMSC volunteers. They are responsible for leading the interviewing, hiring, and coaching of staff, annual performance reviews and goal-setting processes, staffing/scheduling (as needed), and staff development for the department.
The Director of Education effectively communicates the needs, goals, and strategies of the Education Department with other departments (Guest Services, Marketing, Exhibits, Development, etc.)
The Education Director is responsible for revenue-positive business development, supporting the mission of the RMSC to inspire curiosity, exploration, and engagement across history, science, culture, and the natural world.
