Interpreter (Demonstrator, Craftsperson)

At Museum Village, a Historical Interpreter engages and educates our visiting audience. S/He uses historic clothing, structures, plants, animals, and landscape as well as the tools and techniques of early trades, agriculture, horticulture and domestic crafts to make meaningful connections with the present. Historical Interpreters help visitors gain insights into their modern world and a better understanding of it by conveying aspects of its origins in the last quarter of the 19th Century.

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and self-motivation skills required
  • Background in history, museum education, or performing arts helpful but not required
  • Candidates must possess and maintain a positive professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must be at least 16 years old

Responsibilities

 

  • Knowledge of learning styles and ability to work with people of varying ages and skills
  • Learning the Interpretive programming and presenting it consistently
  • If a demonstrator; the ability to adequately communicate and demonstrate the craft or activity
  • If a craftsperson: the ability to produce and consistent production of quality items to be sold in the gift shop as support for the Interpretive programming
  • Assisting with front desk duties and gift shop sales
  • Routine cleaning and light maintenance of the museum buildings, galleries, reproduction clothing and equipment
  • Other duties or special projects as applicable or as assigned

 

Must have some weekday availability 9:30am-3:30pm. Season is Early April thru Mid-November, must be available to start between April 1st to May 1st for school field trips.
