Position Summary

  • Working closely with the Membership Team, secure “Leadership” level annual gifts ($1,000 and up) contributing toward the museum’s Annual Fund campaigns (three annually) as well as general operating and membership gifts, a combined $2.2 million in annual support towards the museum’s operations.
  • Build laddering strategies that invite donors to grow in their relationship with the museum, expanding this revenue stream by 20% in 24 months.
  • Establish a deep and curious understanding of the museum’s members and supporters comprising the “mighty middle,” managing a portfolio of 175-225 donors with ongoing, year-over-year engagement OR demonstrated giving capacity. Conduct in-person or virtual meetings, host events, and establish and maintain positive dialogue through a variety of personalized channels (email, phone, etc.).
  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward this portfolio through creative, sustainable outreach and communications, resulting in upgraded giving on an annual cadence. Personally solicit upgrades to Donor Circle level memberships.
  • Serve as a trusted liaison for all Donor Circles members ($1,000+), becoming their go-to guide for their membership experience.
  • Become an informed, passionate, and articulate advocate for the museum’s mission, its programs, and its impact. Collaborate with the Museum’s Communications and Marketing and Publications Teams to develop collateral messaging to prospects and donors, and draft and edit paper and digital solicitation materials.
  • Become deeply familiar with the AKG’s history, collection, and architecture and establish a confident campus tour script.
  • Proactively maintain prospect tracking information in donor database (contact reports), manage and oversee fundraising plans, and build project management plans for larger scale, cross-functional projects.  
  • Work closely with the Manager of Advancement Services to analyze donor giving data, perform regular assessments of giving histories, and develop fundraising plans accordingly. Significantly contribute to revenue forecasting; analyze membership and annual fund donor base to make data-driven decisions.
  • Devise a stewardship strategy that prioritizes high levels of donor engagement and thoughtful benefit fulfillment, partnering with the Managers of Philanthropy to strategize opportunities for additional asks for restricted gifts and fundraising events.  
  • Assist Senior Manager of Donor Relations in regular activities such as prospectus development, presenting at committee or board meetings, attending donor meetings, and participating in cross-functional projects.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices for donor relations, fundraising, and museum innovation.   Actively participate in Museum-wide initiatives,  donor events, and professional networks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Abilities and Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Two-year college degree required. Four-year degree preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in Advancement/Development/fundraising or a related field, with proven experience in donor/membership relations or client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability soliciting and securing four and five figure gifts.

  • Excellent administrative computer skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to use the Internet fluently for research purposes and adapt to a variety of software and productivity tools such as Asana.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational and follow-through skills with ability to supervise staff and volunteers; can independently coordinate complex projects to completion.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently as well as function as part of a dynamic team.
  • Ability to plan, articulate, and execute fundraising plans for donor stewardship and engagement.
  • Demonstrated discretion and excellent judgment in handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evening hours when required. 

Preferred requirements

  • Comfort with database management and navigation, as well as project management development.
  • Familiarity with content development, marketing, and brand messaging a plus.
  • Arts or cultural professional experience highly desirable.
