Join The Olana Partnership in shaping stories that inspire. The Curatorial & Exhibitions Manager
supports a curatorial team in bringing Olana’s art, architecture, and landscape to life through
innovative exhibitions and thoughtful interpretation. Working in collaboration with the New York
State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, this role supports the advancement of
conservation projects and care of Olana’s unique museum collections, facilitating a fuller and
more meaningful experience for visitors.


About Olana and The Olana Partnership
Olana is the greatest masterwork of Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900), the most famous
American landscape artist of the mid-19th century and the most important artist’s home, studio,
and designed landscape in the United States. Church designed Olana as a holistic environment
integrating his advanced ideas about art, architecture, landscape design, and environmental
conservation. Olana’s 250-acre artist-designed landscape with five miles of carriage roads and a
Persian-inspired house at its summit embraces unrivaled panoramic views of the Hudson Valley
and Catskill Mountains and welcomes more than 170,000 visitors annually. The landscape is
open for guided tours, and reservations are highly recommended. The landscape is open daily
8:00 AM – sunset.

Olana State Historic Site, administered and operated by the New York State Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation, is a designated National Historic Landmark and one of the
most visited sites in the state. The Olana Partnership is the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit cooperative
partner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at Olana State
Historic Site, with primary responsibility for visitor engagement, programming, and exhibitions.


Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Curator and working in collaboration with project-specific guest
curators, contemporary artists, and colleagues at the NYS Bureau of Historic Sites, the Curatorial
& Exhibitions Manager oversees the planning and implementation of special exhibitions and
collection-based installations, and manages projects related to the conservation, care, and
interpretation of museum collections.


Key Responsibilities
▪ Manage The Olana Partnership’s program of exhibitions, including maintaining project
calendars, individual project implementation timelines, and budgets.
▪ Coordinate exhibition loans in cooperation with New York State Bureau of Historic Sites
Museum Registrar.
▪ Coordinate exhibition texts, image rights, oversee gallery preparation and installation, and
manage all fine art transport logistics.
Curatorial & Exhibitions Manager

▪ Manage content flow, image rights, and project calendars for curatorial and exhibition
publications and digital collections projects.
▪ Maintain and track professional service contracts, artist agreements, and guest curator
contracts.
▪ Provide administrative, data collection, and budget support for the preparation of grant
proposals.
▪ Manage internal and external image reproduction requests and support all departments by
providing image files and credit lines and coordinating photography.
▪ Provide support to NYS OPRHP Site Staff in monitoring climate readings, implementing
seasonal interpretation changes, and participating in ongoing collections safety and care.
▪ Hire and supervise contract art handlers for installation projects, ensuring adherence to project
schedules by contract designers, curators, or conservation professionals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
▪ Attention to detail and excellent organizational, project management, writing, and editing
skills.
▪ Demonstrated ability to prepare and meet timelines and budgets.
▪ Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
▪ Collaborative and collegial work style.
▪ Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and TMS or comparable museum collection
databases.


Required Qualifications
▪ Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, arts administration, or a related field.
Master’s degree a plus.
▪ At least 2 years of administrative and project-management experience, including managing
budgets, in a not-for-profit setting, preferably a museum environment, or the equivalent
education and experience.
▪ Demonstrated experience managing museum collections or archives. Knowledge of art
handling and conservation best practices in an historic environment a plus.
Work Environment
• The is an in-person role generally working Monday – Friday with occasional weekends and
evenings needed.
• Indoor office environment frequently, outdoor environment occasionally.
• Office is located within historic building accessible via 2 flights of stairs.
