Job Summary:

The Education and Guest Services Lead supports the delivery of engaging, guest-centered educational experiences that connect visitors of all ages to the Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s exhibits, collections, and history. This position assists in facilitating daily programs, tours, and field trips, helping ensure a welcoming, informative, and memorable experience for all visitors.

Working as part of a collaborative Museum team, the Education and Guest Services Lead contributes to program delivery, visitor engagement, and basic administrative support related to educational programming and guest services operations.

Primary Responsibilities include:

The Education and Guest Services Lead works directly with the public and plays an important role in delivering interactive, hands-on educational experiences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate public programs, school programs, and hands-on activities using existing curricula and resources.
  • Support school field trips and classroom visits, including assisting with group logistics and engagement.
  • Lead guided tours for school groups, camps, families, and other organized groups.
  • Assist with outreach programs and special events, as assigned.
  • Support daily guest services operations and visitor engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain program supplies and assist with basic recordkeeping related to attendance.
  • Collaborate with Museum staff and Olympic Authority partners to ensure a consistent, high-quality visitor experience.

This position reports to the Museum Director and works closely with other Museum and Olympic Authority staff.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in education, history, communications, museum studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience working with youth, education, or public programs.
  • Interest in museum education, public history, or informal learning environments.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and creating welcoming spaces for all visitors.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills; comfortable presenting to groups of varying sizes and ages.
  • Ability to remain organized, adaptable, and positive in a public-facing environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and receive direction and feedback.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Availability to work Tuesday–Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with flexibility to work occasional holidays as needed.

Wage/Salary:

This position is identified as a Grade 13 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with a rate of $19.99 per hour. The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (sick, vacation, and personal time), paid holidays, health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems, and participation in NYS Deferred Compensation, as defined under the CSEA contract.
