Position Summary
Boscobel House and Gardens, located in Garrison, NY, is the steward of an extraordinary 112-acre cultural campus overlooking the Hudson River, featuring a restored Neoclassical mansion, curated landscapes, and a portfolio of public programs that integrate history, the arts, and the natural environment. Boscobel seeks a Public Programs Manager (PPM) to provide strategic, creative, and operational leadership for public programs that provide engaging, meaningful and enjoyable experiences that attract and connect the novice, the specialist and lifelong learners to Boscobel’s unique perspectives on the Hudson Valley.
The Public Programs Manager is the internal lead for the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Boscobel’s public programs. Working cross-departmentally and with external partners, the PPM translates organizational priorities and assets into public programs that interest and serve diverse audiences, strengthen community and academic partnerships, and advance institutional sustainability and relevance.
The Public Programs Manager is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. All Boscobel employees are expected to work certain holiday and evening programs throughout the year including member previews, patron parties, holiday Twilight Tours, Independence Day concert, the Chamber Music Festival, and other events as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Planning, Strategy, and Evaluation
- Develop a thorough understanding of the diverse audiences and community members that Boscobel serves, to guide the Programming efforts of the institution.
- Ensure that public programming reflects and engages the full range of community stakeholders—including families with children, local residents, tourists, educators, scholars, and partners—by intentionally designing experiences that are relevant, inclusive across diverse audiences, and organizationally sustainable
- Review programming with colleagues and the board’s Program Committee to ensure alignment with Boscobel’s mission, strategic goals, institutional capacity, and public interest, utilizing data incl attendance, guest feedback, expense vs revenue, feasibility, etc.
- Prepare and manage program budgets; monitor expenses and revenue to meet attendance and earned-income targets
- Establish pricing strategies, attendance projections, and performance benchmarks in collaboration with senior staff
Program Implementation & Operations
- Communicate program goals and details in ample time to ensure programs are effectively integrated with interpretive, stewardship, messaging, fundraising, and operational needs
- Enter program details into calendars, ticketing platforms, work order systems, etc.
- Serve as the point-person for program logistics including cross-departmental staffing, supplies, and technology needs, external guest/partner experts, artists, educators, and/or volunteers
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented program culture
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Program Committee, a committee of trustees, staff, and others
- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with individual and organizational partners in the fields of design/arts, horticulture/environment, and history/preservation to expand program reach, relevance, and capacity
- Serve as an organizational ambassador to the community and professional networks
Development & Communications Support
- Provide content for grant proposals, sponsorships, donor cultivation events, marketing and social media platforms, and reports

Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Education, Public History, Art/Design History, Environmental Education, Arts Administration, or the equivalent
- Three-five years of experience managing programming, staff and/or volunteers, budgets, academic and revenue-generating programs, multiple timelines, and complex logistics in a cultural setting; gardens/environmental education is a plus
- Ability to utilize relevant software to manage program details and needs
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, public-facing environment.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, including working outdoors on a 112-acre site in varied conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Salary and Benefits for qualified applicants:
- Salary range: $54,000-65,000 year depending on experience
